Charter flight delays at Manchester Airport suffered a significant increase in delays during 2007 compared with 2006, the average delay increasing from 27 to 30 minutes and on-time performance dropping from 68% to 64%.

Punctuality performance at the airport was worse than the UK average during the year, and the airport was the worst for charter flight delays of all 10 UK reporting airports.

Astraeus had the best charter flight punctuality at Manchester airport during the summer 2007 season, with an average delay of 19 minutes and 71% on-time performance recorded, ahead of any other charter airlines at the airport.

MyTravel Airways followed with an average delay of 23 minutes and 75% on-time performance (the highest OTP at the airport during the season).

Thomsonfly, Monarch Airlines and First Choice Airways all followed with average delays of between 28 minutes and 31 minutes, close to the average performance at the airport.

XL Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines and Flyjet had the worst performance at Manchester over the season to date, with high proportions of flights held up for over an hour and in the case of Thomas Cook, the second largest charter airline at the airport, an average delay of 40 minutes with nearly 1 in 5 flights held up by over an hour.

MyTravel Airways had the best punctuality of any UK charter airline at Manchester during the winter 2006 / 07 season, with the average flight operating only 12 minutes behind schedule and 83% of flights operating on-time.

Only 1 in 20 MyTravel charter flights at Manchester were delayed by over an hour, around half the average level seen at the airport for all charter flights.

First Choice Airways and Thomsonfly followed in second and third position respectively, both airlines recording similar punctuality with First Choice having the upper hand on average delay (3 minutes less than Thomsonfly at 18 minutes) but Thomsonfly operating more charter flights on-time at the airport during the season (74%, against 73% for First Choice).

Thomas Cook Airlines was in the middle of the table during the season with an average delay of 26 minutes and 67% on-time performance.

Relatively poor performance was seen for the three charter airlines at the bottom of the table; Astraeus, XL Airways and Monarch Airlines. Astraeus charter flights had the lowest on-time performance at the airport (53%), but Monarch Airlines charter flights recorded the highest average delay at 51 minutes, a very poor and unprecedented performance for the airline at Manchester compared with previous winter seasons (37 minutes in 2005 / 06 and 27 minutes in 2004 / 05).
