Charter flight delays at Birmingham airport increased during the year to June 2008 compared with the same period the previous year, with the average flight delayed by 22 minutes and 71% on-time performance.

Charter flights at Birmingham airport had significantly better punctuality during the year to date than the UK average, with on-time performance more than seven percentage points higher compared with the national level of 63%.

The average charter flight at Birmingham airport was delayed by around 24 minutes, with 65% on-time performance, during the first three months of the summer 2008 season, the worst performance seen for charter flights at the airport since we began analysing records in 2003.

Monarch Airlines charter flights had the best punctuality at the airport with 75% on-time performance and an average delay of 16 minutes. XL Airways and Thomsonfly / First Choice followed with approximately 64% to 67% on-time performance and nearly 1 in 10 flights delayed by over an hour.

Delays were longest for Thomas Cook Airlines, with 1 in 8 Thomas Cook charter flights at Birmingham delayed by over an hour during the season to date.

Monarch Airlines and MyTravel Airways were the most punctual UK charter airlines at Newcastle during the winter 2007 / 08 season, both achieving excellent timekeeping. Monarch had the lowest average delay while MyTravel had better on-time performance.

Thomas Cook Airlines also achieved good punctuality with an average delay of 15 minutes and 74% on-time performance.

Thomsonfly were in fourth position with slightly below average punctuality at the airport, followed by First Choice Airways and XL Airways who suffered the longest delays, XL achieving only 49% on-time performance for the season.
