The punctuality of XL Airways flights improved in 2006 compared with 2005, the average delay reducing from 41 minutes to 38 minutes and on-time performance increasing by two percentage points to 62%.
This punctuality performance remained well below the UK charter average, particularly the proportion of flights delayed extensively (by over 3 hours) which affected nearly 1 in 20 XL charter flights on 2006, compared to around 1 in 40 across the UK.

Note: A small number of flights to and from Edinburgh (8) were not included in the analysis.

During the summer 2006 season the majority of XL Airways charter flights operated at Manchester and London Gatwick, with poor timekeeping recorded at both airports.
At Gatwick in particular, on-time performance was less than 59% and 1 in 6 flights were delayed by over an hour.
Newcastle and Glasgow were the only other reporting airports where a significant volume of XL flights operated, and where in both cases punctuality was much better.

Note: A small number of flights to and from Glasgow (10), Birmingham (8), London Luton (7) and London Stansted (2) were not included in the analysis.
