Punctuality of XL Airways flights suffered a significant drop in 2004 compared with 2003, with the average flight delayed by 28 minutes, an 86% increase.
On-time performance dropped from 77% to 67% and the proportion of flights operating over an hour late doubled to over 10%. Having previously had better punctuality than the average for all charter airlines in 2003, XL flights had poorer punctuality in all categories during 2004.

Compared with other UK charter carriers, XL Airways achieved an average punctuality performance over the summer 2004 season, a poorer season than was seen in 2003 for the carrier.
On-time performance was down by around 11% and the average flight was delayed by 28 minutes, a 14 minute increase year-on-year.
The best XL charter punctuality was seen at Glasgow, where over 80% on-time performance was achieved, with the longest delays seen at Manchester where more than 1 in 8 flights operated over an hour behind schedule.

Most XL charter flights during the winter 2003 / 04 season operated at Gatwick, where the average delay was 22 minutes and 64% of services operated on time.
There was poorer punctuality for the carrier for the small number of flights operated at Birmingham and Glasgow.
