Monarch charter flights showed a drop in punctuality year-on-year in all delay categories during 2004.

The general year-on-year trend for all UK charter flights in 2004 was also for a reduction in punctuality, but the Monarch data shows poorer punctuality than the UK average.

In general Monarch charter flights achieved poor punctuality over the 2004 summer season, with fewer than 2 in 3 services operating on time and more than 1 in 10 flights over an hour late leading to an average delay across the analysed network of 29 minutes.

Performance was particularly poor at both London Gatwick and Manchester, where the majority of Monarch charter flights operate, and average delays in excess of 30 minutes were recorded.

Good performances were seen for charter flights at Edinburgh, with average delays of 10 minutes and 85% on-time performance, though the small number of flights means they represent less than 10% of the charter services operated by Monarch at UK reporting airports.

Winter 2003 / 2004 punctuality performance for Monarch charter flights showed a slight improvement on the same period in 2002 / 2003, however the average overall delay of 29 minutes and just over 61% on-time performance still left the carrier well short of the timekeeping performance demonstrated by the three leading UK charter airlines.

Poor punctuality was evident across the Monarch charter network over the season, with perhaps the most disappointing results seen at London Gatwick, where the carrier operates the most charter flights, but achieved than 60% on-time performance with more than 1 in 8 services over an hour late.
